Meet Alka Dalal iFierce soul, brave heart, strong mind..

Meet Alka – who grew up with three other siblings in a middle-class family in Gurgaon. Education has been the strongest value that her father rooted for, because of which everyone in her family is well-educated & deputed. Her known disciplined father has always pampered Alka & has been a support system at every step of her life.

During Alka’s college days in Delhi, she met Azad in a get-together. He was friends with Alka’s younger brother. Something clicked & their relationship blossomed. Alka was attracted to his greatly different persona – intellectual & courageous – like an army man. After being in the courtship for 6 years, Alka married “Assistant commandant Azad Singh Dalal” in 1996. It was him! Azad was dedicated towards his family & the country. Alka used to look up to him not only as a partner but for his devotion for his country, he was already an inspiration to her. They had a son after 2 years.

More than Alka the country needed him, hence on 13 June 1999, Azad sacrificed his life in Kargil war.

Alka earned immense respect for the way she endured the loss. Alka was equally courageous to step forward. She decided not to remarry to honor Azad’s legacy. She figured what she needed to do just one month of his death.

In the same year on Azad’s Death Anniversary, they organized a huge event to celebrate his contribution & life journey. They registered a trust on Azad’s name as a tribute. Every year on his birthday they organize prayer meeting & communal meal with family & friends who are extremely supportive.

Alka is dedicated to her son’s upbringing like his father. She provides him the environment in which his father grew up.

She says – “From last 22 years, I have dedicated my life towards my family. I am too busy to get bored”, she smiles. Alka is currently a businesswoman. She also invests plenty of time in offering guidance for women centric issues & issues pertaining to senior citizens. She believes that there is no need to dwell on what happens in life, we should try to find out a resolution instead.

They celebrate Republic Day & Independence Day every year to keep the spirit alive amongst the younger generation.

We salute Alka for inculcating Azad’s legacy in today’s generation. She is truly a conqueror!
